My pal Luke and I spent the afternoon strolling through Chinatown/Princes Island Park. It was at least 10 degrees Celsius, which is ridiculous for mid-January on the Canadian prairies. Luke and I have been friends since elementary school and we’ve been through lots together. I only get to see him once a year or so, but it’s always quality time well spent when we do hang out.

Yay! The podcast is up!

Britt and I were on CJSW 90.9FM last month talking about Fat Activism, Acceptance and Fashion and it was super fun.

Thanks to the women of Yeah, What She Said - Calgary’s feminist radio show!

(Subscribe to their podcast- they do a new show every Monday at 8pm MST that can be heard at CJSW.com OR you can wait for the podcasts to come out a few weeks later.)

If you have 20-30 minutes to spare - give it a listen and let me know your thoughts?

Trans Woman Wins “Breast Summer Ever” Contest!

For those of you who voted for Avery - the trans contestant in the “Breast Summer Ever” contest, you should know that she won- by a 77% landslide!

“In Canada, I am not given any health care for being transgendered and I have to pay out of my own pocket for these procedures”, Avery told AMP Radio. “Having breasts would help complete me as a person.”

Buzz Bishop, host of the morning show on AMP Radio, wasn’t surprised at the reasons people entered the controversial contest. “We heard so many touching and powerful stories, but Avery’s story obviously resonated with people. All of us at AMP Radio are thrilled to give Avery the chance to help complete her journey.”

“Avery’s victory in this contest sends a strong message of acceptance and understanding,” said AMP Radio Program Director Kris Mazurak. “We should all be proud to live in a city and society willing to embrace those like Avery and the difficult challenges they face.”

The misgendering in the press-release linked to above isn’t super hopeful, but REGARDLESS let’s just be happy right now that the world is sometimes a lovely place.
