This is what is wrong with the world today.

I work during the day at a Ballet company. One of the best in the Country, and near the top of the list world-wide.

I work in the Marketing Department, but my phone extension is similar to that of the box office, so I often take ticket requests in my downtime.

The next show we have coming up is called the “Seven Deadly Sins,” so natch we have over-protective parents asking if it’s appropriate for children. And it is. Of course Lust is hard to dance to without a bit of intimacy, but it’s Ballet- there’s always inappropriate grabbing.

So, I tell parents that it’s family friendly, and at least once a week I hear about a parent refusing to believe this, and telling us they will not be exposing their children to this.

Okay. First of all- IT’S THE BALLET. There’s possibly nothing less risque than the Ballet. Worst case scenario, they see some classy gyrating on stage and have a few questions, but leave feeling cultured.

Second - The amount of crap your child is exposed to on television and online is more than you could possibly know. Allowing your child and the babysitter to watch whatever is on TV on Friday night (Showtime, anyone?) instead of taking them with you to the show, is downright idiotic over-protective parenting. You are encouraging your child to avoid amazing cultural experiences because sexuality is MENTIONED within the context of the piece.

This is what is wrong with the world today.
